3.5 Word Press Update

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

Word press recently updated its version to ‘Wordpress 3.5′ in December 2012. Here, we look at some specs that are updated in the new version of Word Press.

According to top websites, Wordpress provides a user-friendly and sleek interface for both the users and developers.

The new update is named ‘Elvin’ after ‘Elvin Jones’ a remarkable drummer who died in 2004, by Max Foundry. Max Foundry further says that the most rejuvenating change will be the ‘media’ experience.

Old ‘insert’ button has been changed to ‘Add media’ icon. Not just that, the interface provides thumbnail sized images for upload. The flexibility in new media is that, images can be dragged and dumped anywhere on the CMS using the updated version.

Last but not the least, caption and ALT can be edited even when the media are being uploaded, which can save plenty of time on large images. An experience that has totally been re imagined.

Keeping all that aside, the additional changes include a new theme called Twenty Twelve, support for Instagram has been added and most importantly the compatibility of retina displays.

Keep us posted about your opinions on the new update.

Seven Steps of Designing a Logo

Saturday, December 22nd, 2012

When it comes to choosing a logo designer for your upcoming business. Or if you are an old fish and looking for a new hook for marketing, that is re-branding your product. There are few things which need to be considered before giving project to any designer.

These few things are:

How much is your budget?

As all companies in the world are commercial, whether they are big fish in a small pond or a small fish in a big pond. It’s better to optimize the budget and choose a moderate value for logo design.

Check out websites

After allocating an amount for your ‘logo design’. It’s time for ‘lookout’, check the top websites on search engines which can guarantee you money back guarantee even if you  don’t like their design as well as are cost effective and timely efficient.

Ask for samples

After you have sought out one company that you find perfectly suitable for your logo. Don’t hurry it yet and ask for their samples. This is to make sure that you are ordering the right person for the right job.

Negotiate!

There is a saying ‘don’t buy from those who are not ready to negotiate’. So, the first step in every business is to negotiate with your designer. This is to get a better and an accurate price for your design.

Brief them:

As you have finalized and shortlisted the designer of your choice. It’s time to brief him about the design you want and ask his opinion and whether he can do it easily? Because sometimes designers hesitate to do a complex job.

Guide Him:

Don’t just sit back after ordering the design. A logo design is just like interior designing of a house. You have to stick with him throughout the process to get a clean and accurate result.

Want revisions?

After you have received the delivery (that will be three or more design concepts) accept one of them or if you want a change, ask the company for revision.

Ask for copyrights and files (PNG,TIFF,JPG,AI or EPS).

That’s it, Congrats on your new logo design. Now market it across the globe.

Friday, December 7th, 2012

In last three years, some major Capitalist giants changed their logo. The logo of most of these companies came as a surprise while for others it was not much than a few alterations to their designs. Their logos and designs are discussed below.

Microsoft

‘Gone are the edges’ is the tagline that public is saying for Microsoft’s new logo. The new logo has shifted from wavy edges to plain square boxes. For some people, this new change is termed as ‘absurd’ as it has made the logo very simple and all style and elegance is lost.

Twitter

The baby bird finally grew up; Twitter has also changed its logo this time. The old logo was of a baby bird displayed as it was flying in the air. The changes are minor. But depict a bigger change.

Dominoes

Not a pizza parlor anymore! Domino’s has also changed its logo this year after remaining in business for last 15 years. The change doesn’t come as a surprise as so many other famous brands have also altered their logos. Domino’s has removed pizza from its logo as they say they are much more than ‘just’ a pizza place.

The name ‘Dominoes’ also is no longer booked in a box. This is a new marketing strategy by Dominoes telling the world that they are not packed in a box but open to business.

USA today:

USA today has also changed its old logo to a new one. But some folks didn’t like the new ‘ball’ icon. Stephen Colbert is one of them. The new logo is termed as a pie chart of confused people.

Well you decide whether it’s amazing or confusing!!

Mozilla Firefox:

The third largest browser Mozilla Firefox has also changed what we call a little bit alteration to their logo. A little history of their logo variations consists of change in color of tail and color of globe. A shadow also appears in Firefox 3.5 and higher versions.

Discovery:

Discovery channels logo was changed in 2009 by Royale. Its first logo was by Viewpoint Creative, who also manages the graphics of channel. The changes are minor, ‘Channel’ is made bigger and ‘Globe’ is totally detached from name.

E-bay:

EBay changed their logo in September 2012. According to them the old logo was giving more of a 90’s feel. That look is discarded in the new logo. Letters are designed in line rather than previous jumpy approach. But new logo looks more like Google’s logo.
